Cephalopentandra ecirrhosa (Cogn.) C. Jeffrey
These will develope a large caudex (up to 12 inches). "ecirrhosa" means "without tendrils" which refers to the fact that this plant is easier to manage than other cucurbits. Likes it warmth in the Winter and plenty of water in the Summer. Very desireable.
